Can Bangladesh beat any team playing cricket at home
Mushfiqur Rahim, captain of bangladesh cricket team, has made a loud statement - "We were not consistent in Tests and T20s but in our home conditions, our line-up is capable of beating any team on our day," ahead of first ODI match against Sri Lanka at Dhaka.
Bangladesh has been able to push the much fancied team from emerald island both in test matches and t-20 cricket matches recently, and thus one has to agree with Mushfiqur's statement to certain extent. But is it a sign of overconfidence or nervousness? Or is it a captain trying to motivate his players and trying to them into the groove. Mushfiqur Rahim will not keep wickets on Monday as he doesn't want to risk aggravating a finger injury, but he clearly don't mind making some loud statements.
Bangladesh have four genuine pacers in the side and will surely take their time to put together a strong playing XI. Dew factor might come into play and there was overnight rain on Sunday. Bangladesh might play three pacers or three spinners, it will depend on the dew factor. Team looks flexible, with left-arm spinners, pacers and off spinners. One has to wait till tomorrow for the final team news.
I must say Bangladesh are not the pushover they were in the past. The batters are now experienced (Tamin, Rahim and Sakib played in the 2007 WC) with some good young talent (Hussain) and the bowlers are well equiped for home conditions. There is no point saying they havent beaten India or SA when these teams haven't toured but they have beaten who ever toured and you cant do much more than that.
Its great to see some Sri Lanka fans admit the importance of scoring runs against a team like Bangladesh lol really appreciate it. Now I can see why whenever they are up against Pakistan or India, they can boast against their fans about their players stats of i.e. Chandimal as legends lol despite heavily inflated by playing against Bangladesh. Of course people people want test status taken away from Bangladesh because they cannot swallow the draws they are starting to get against such bad teams.
Its funny how some Sri Lanka fans are acting as if their team is the greatest team ever. It took a world number 1 T20 side the last ball in both matches to beat a team like Bangladesh? lol something is clearly wrong and drew yet again to a very young inexperienced worst test side in which their highest capped player has still not even played 40 test matches yet says all we need to know about Sri Lanka Cricket. If you just take away the runs of their 'youngster' Sanga in all the matches on this tour, the results would've been the other way around so the future is clear in my view.
These 3 matches and then Asia cup will determine whether Bangladesh has really progressed in ODIs at home at least. Dominating teams like NZ is easy at home with spin and BD did it earlier as well. However they did not do well with other teams after that first whitewash against NZ. Hopefully this time it will be different. With home advantage, they should look to win this series and not just be happy with a heroic defeat.
What you have to say? Is Bangladesh really good enough to beat sri lanka and any other team or they will be whitewashed easily by the teams ranked higher then them in ICC ODI rankings?

Kachi says: "A bit of over confidence shown by an immature captain. Yes. I agree that BD performed well in ODIs at home. They won 2 bilateral series at home, but those were with WI and NZ. Mushfiqur seems to think that they won against Aus or SA as he says they can beat anyone at home. Furthermore, he boasts that they have 4 "genuine pacers". Is he talking about medium fast bowlers? or may be spinners as well. It's better to be humble and accept the fact that you haven't won anything against SL. Waiting to see how they walk the talk."
Muralithanran says: "Mushfiqur is right...Bangladesh is an improved team in ODIs and are difficult to beat at home...Bangladesh has 7 chances to prove that they are unbeatable at home - the 3 ODIs vs SL & then 4 league matches vs Ind,Sl,Pak & Afg in Asia Cup."
